Welcome to early October! As the rut gets closer and closer to us here in central Missouri we are getting more and more excited for every sit!

Brandon and I went out last weekend and found some huge rubs and some good fresh scrapes. We went ahead and hung some sets in those areas. This weekend we plan on taking some trail cameras and hanging them up when we go into hunt this weekend because we dont have any out right now and as bucks are becoming more and more active, we need to start figuring out where they are going and what they are doing. Obviously they are scrapping and making rubs we just need times specifically! These are some of the biggest rubs we have ever found, and with all of them being within 50 yards of some scrapes, we feel that this is a very active travel area and we can pick off the buck that is tearing this place up with the right wind and some help from the good lord above.

But, last sunday evening as we hung our last set close to some of these rub, it was around 5:45 p.m. we decided to stay put so we wouldnt scare anything out of the area while we were leaving and wouldnt you know it, we saw 4 bucks and some big Missouri gobblers moving around. One shooter came within 80 yards, a big heavy 8 pointer and we got some footage of some young bucks fighting, and they were making some noise now, they werent sparring! We also plan on making some mock scrapes this weekend to see what we can bring in, we have never tried it so it will be cool to try and do! The key thing there is to just remain as scent free as possible when doing it and to leave the area as un-disturbed as possible!
But that was last weekend, we look forward to this weekend, and hopefully on our next entry, we can tell a story of success with the hoyt and the trophy ridge arrows and broadheads, have some harvest photos or some awesome trail camera pictures to show for!
Be safe, good luck, and God bless!
Here is some recent footage . . .

A Good 8 & A Good 10

Thats right! It was one of the biggest suprises we have ever had in a deer stand and certainly the biggest one so far for the 2010 season! We just came in to kill a doe because we had been watching 4 does filter through every evening and The Big 11 showed up at 7 p.m. Sunday night with a solid 8 point and a young spike. We got him into range with the can call from Primos and it was history from there! The rocket broadhead did its job and the great buck fell over dead 75 yards away from the stand! It was such a big suprise because we hadn't picked up any hit list bucks on our trail camera which is located 60-75 yards from where he was shot.

For more on the story go to http://www.midwestwhitetail.com/ and click on the missouri link at the top and read the blog on that page!!!! To watch the hunt keep checking back in future episodes!!!!

Sweet September is right! Its finally here, all this time we have been waiting to sit in our deer stands is quickly nearing its end! Before you know it, we will be taking pictures with one of our most wanted bucks off of our hit lists this year, and it will be on to shed hunting, and turkey season. But you know what, the time is now, and everyone is gathering their trail camera pictures together to develop their hit list as the season opener approaches! So here we go, here is some of the bucks we will be hunting!
This is a really nice 8 pointer we got velvet footage of and many trail cam pictures. We call him the short G3 buck, for obvious reasons, but his G2's have great length and he carries great mass throughout his entire rack. He will be one to keep looking after once his velvet is off.

Here is a new buck we got this year. We call him the split G2 9 because his right G2 is split. I think these deer with split G2's are becoming more and more common. You hardly ever hear of a split G3 or G4 buck, but more so of the split G2 bucks. He is a solid 9 point, and we look forward to having some encounters with him. He runs around with a really long tined tight racked 8 pointer. This camera is in a bottom, and there is a small creek that runs all along this bottom. It is their staging area before coming out into the hay fields in the evenings to feed. There were a lot of scrapes and rub lines in this area, we think it will be a really hot stand this fall!

This next buck is just a beautiful 8 pointer. We call him symmy because of his closely symmetrical frame. He has walked past the camera at many times in one day. He spends more time at this location in the morning than in the evenings we have noticed, so we will look forward to encountering him on a cool sunrise morning. He is one of many bucks that passes this camera. We dont have any history with this buck, but he might make our history.

Here is what I mean when I said one of many that comes by this camera!!!

This is the first buck that we have seen start to shed his velvet.
His right G2 is coming off.

And he finally showed up! The Krab ten or Krabby we call him because of his right G4. It looks like a claw. He is new to our farm, we have never had previous encounters with him or any trail camera pictures. Right now, this is the deer we are going to key in on early season. We got two sets hung for him in this area this past weekend and put the cameras back out so we will check them again this coming weekend. Just a big heavy grey bodied ten pointer that we would be more than glad to take! Funny thing is, he doesnt come by just one time and at one certain time, he will stay around for and hour or two at a time, 3 hours later he will come back and hang out some more. Very visible deer right now! No night time pictures of him!

Just some of the new recent bucks on the hit list! Hope you enjoyed looking and thanks for reading! God bless, be safe, and good luck hunting!

Well the season for Midwest Whitetail Missouri is fast apporoaching and during these hot summer days the only thing you can do is look at pictures and footage of the deer you are going to be hunting this season. You just wish season was open, with a bow in your hands, and your cameraman behind you with that 5mph wind blowing in the perfect direction, sitting in your stand waiting for that named buck to step out into the field before dark . . . . . oh it gets your blood flowing just thinking about it.

Here in south central missouri, Brandon and I have been pretty busy working and getting things ready for September 15. We have picked up some decent deer and we are just now starting to see growth spurts on their racks. Also, new deer keep showing up, so we hope they bring more of their friends and have a big party in front of the cameras because the party will be ending this fall!

Great week, great bucks!

Hay is done, and Clint is 18!

More and more bucks are starting to come out into the fields in the evenings, our prime time around here has been from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Well here we are on June 18, 2010 and we finally are getting some growth on some bone in the hardwoods. Everything seems to be going great, this is the earliest we have ever had our trail cameras out and it is really interesting seeing them grow their racks and eventually seeing the velvet come off, and then their coats of hair change to thicker, darker hair.

This doe was the first deer to show up on our trail camera, we got over 100 pictures of her, and finally something interesting showed up. . . . young fawn. We got many pictures of the mother feeding and cleaning the fawn. Cool stuff.

NOW THATS FUNNY!!!!

You just gotta feel bad when you see them poor deer eaten up with them ticks and bugs!!!!

THE FIRST BUCK! Coming along very well, hope he turns into a good one.

A couple of more bucks off of another one of our cameras. This just gets us so excited looking at pictures!

What a buck there ! ! ! LOL

There are so many things you can do to get ready for the season that is upon you, for us this year, it is to get as many cameras hung up and ready to take pictures as we can, and to put some hunting plots in that will draw the deer in to range and to give them a little something different to eat other than benton county weeds.

This past week, June 3, 2010 as a matter of fact, we put out our first trail camera with a bag of some shelled corn and we look forward to watch the deer grow from now until season.

So we loaded up the four wheeler and headed to the farm to a spot we know very well.

When we got to the farm we went down a couple trails and some fence lines just maybe to see some good tracks and sign of some deer and we sure weren't dissapointed.

As we were looking for some sign and driving around fence lines, we spotted a young buck near one of our old homeade blinds. It was a great sign because they are usually always around this area and it is the same spot where two Missouri gobblers were taken down this year.

We finally got to the spot we wanted to put up a camera and we strapped it up to the tree and threw a half of bag of corn out.

The excitement that comes along with waiting to check that trail camera of yours after you've left it out in the woods for a period of time is nearly as close as a young kid waiting for Santa to come in the house and eat the cookies and milk on the kitchen table. You never know what you will find and you are always anxious to see what the memory card is full of. We are hoping this year to catch a drop tine buck that has been shot at twice and is still alive. Cameras allow you to "spy" on them, seeing them in their own habitat under relaxed conditions. You will not only learn where the biggest deer live, but you can enjoy watching the growth of certain deer as they go through stages in their life. It is always fun to compare pictures of the same buck from year to year. As a result, cameras help you pattern and find bucks faster and easier than ever before!

Our next step of our preparation for the upcoming season was to put about a 3/4 to 1 acre hunting plot in for the deer to access. We knew by NO means that this plot would be absolutely perfect in growth, fertilizer, lime, and soil. We are just clearing the plot, getting the rocks out of it, raking and dragging it, and throwing some seed down to see what happens.

We began by taking the bobcat T300 and the four wheeler deep into the woods, in the back of the property where it is thick, somewhat flat, and near a known bedding area.

Selecting the spot wasn't hard at all, clearing it all and trying to clean it up as best as possible took the longest.

We worked on the hunting plot clear until dark which was about 9 o clock.

We came back this past saturday to work on it some more and this is what it looked like.

The third day we came back, this past sunday we dragged it, picked up rocks and twigs, and we finally got 3 rows of fence up around the hunting plot. From this view above, it is 70 yards to that back corner. It is 40 yards across from side to side.

Keep checking our blog and keep following us to see how we are doing!
Be safe & God bless!
